Govt unveils immigration policy 2026

The Federal Government has unveiled the National Immigration Policy 2026, aimed at ensuring safe, orderly, and dignified migration for Pakistanis seeking opportunities abroad while enhancing workforce skills and protecting migrant rights.

According to a private news channel, Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain announced the policy in Islamabad, describing it as a renewed national commitment to every Pakistani leaving the country for employment. He said the rapidly evolving global labour market and increasing competition for skilled workers require Pakistan to align its workforce with future international demands.

The minister said the new policy would play a key role in preparing Pakistani workers to meet global standards. He added that around 12 million Pakistanis are currently living in different countries, serving as ambassadors of Pakistan and making significant contributions to the national economy.

Chaudhry Salik Hussain noted that overseas Pakistanis sent a record more than $41 billion in remittances during the last fiscal year, underscoring their vital role in supporting the country’s economy. He said the government is committed to effectively implementing the policy to safeguard the rights of overseas Pakistanis, develop a skilled workforce, and maximize employment opportunities in international labour markets.

The National Immigration Policy 2026 is aimed to improve migration management through stronger institutional coordination, better governance, better worker protection, and measures to ensure Pakistani migrants acquire internationally recognized skills before seeking employment abroad.
