Govt early salary payment due to labour day

The Government of Pakistan has directed that salaries be paid on time—and earlier than usual—due to three consecutive holidays coming up across the country.

According to reports, the Punjab Finance Department has issued a formal notification instructing that salaries for government employees in Punjab will be disbursed on April 30 instead of the usual schedule. The move is aimed at ensuring that employees receive their pay before the extended holiday period begins.

The decision comes in light of the upcoming public holiday on Labour Day, observed on May 1. Following this, the weekend holidays on Saturday and Sunday (May 3 and 4) will result in three consecutive days off. Authorities were concerned that if salaries were not released in advance, employees might face unnecessary financial inconvenience during the break.

It is worth noting that the government had already issued an official holiday calendar for 2026, outlining all public, bank, and optional holidays for the year. Labour Day, a globally recognized occasion honoring workers’ contributions, is included as a public holiday in Pakistan as well.

Officials of the finance department stated that the early payment is an employ friendly measure to facilitate government workers, allowing them to manage their expenses without hurdles during the holidays. It also reflects the administration’s effort to maintain efficiency and responsiveness in handling employee welfare matters.

Furthermore, by ensuring timely salary payments, the government aims to provide relief and stability to employees, particularly during periods when banking operations and official work halt due to consecutive holidays.
