Relief for electricity consumers in bills

Electricity consumers across the country, including those of K-Electric, are likely to receive significant relief.

Power distribution companies (DISCOs) have submitted a request for the quarterly adjustment for the first quarter of 2026, under which consumers may get relief of up to Rs. 63.94 billion.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will hear the petition on May 19. From January to March, a reduction of Rs. 36.837 billion has been recorded under capacity charges. Additionally, Rs. 11.24 billion reduction is expected in system usage charges and market operation fees, while a decrease of Rs. 23.51 billion has been requested under incremental units.

The final decision regarding the relief for consumers will be made by NEPRA after the hearing.

This relief is expected to lower upcoming electricity bills, providing financial ease to both households and businesses, if approved. Consumers suggest that such quarterly adjustments are pertinent to passing the benefit of reduced costs to consumers, though the actual impact will depend on NEPRA’s final determination.

In this context, consumers are optimistic about NEPRA’s verdict, hoping that this proposed adjustment translates into real savings on their electricity bills.

It is worth noting that the govt is making every possible effort to ease the burden of citizens. In a recent move, NEPRA announced license exemption for solar consumers of 25Kv and below in order to provide relief to the low-income citizens.
