Islamabad: Chairman Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, while addressing the National Assembly, said, “I strongly condemn the terrorist attacks from Islamabad to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.” He said that unity is needed in the war against terrorism, putting aside ideological differences.
Bilawal Bhutto said that Pakistan has achieved successes against terrorists that even the combined forces of NATO could not achieve in Afghanistan. “We have defeated terrorists before, and we will do so again,” he said in a resolute tone.
Constitutional Amendments and National Consensus
Bilawal Bhutto, while expressing his views on the 27th Constitutional Amendment, said that the government has made unanimous constitutional amendments in the past as well. “During the 26th Amendment, Maulana Fazal ur Rehman voted with the permission of the PTI, similarly today we are bringing the 27th Amendment unanimously.”
He said, “We are going to give constitutional protection to the post of Field Marshal and amendments related to defense institutions are also included.” Bilawal Bhutto said that the provinces will get equal representation in the Constitutional Court and “after the 27th Amendment, there will be no hundred moto, this will be a historic achievement.”
Declared the 18th Amendment irrevocable
The Chairman PPP clarified that “the 18th Amendment is a symbol of federation, no one’s father can abolish it even if he wants.” According to him, the 1973 Constitution is uncontroversial because all political parties approved it unanimously.
He said that the Charter of Democracy was not just an agreement of the PPP or the PML-N but a collective promise of all political forces. “Today we are fulfilling that promise and the establishment of the Constitutional Court will restore judicial balance.”
Criticism of the opposition, appeal for unity in the national interest
Addressing the opposition, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that “in the interest of the country, the opposition should have participated in the committee meetings and given its suggestions. If they had participated, the legislation could have been better.”
He said that political differences have their place, but for the survival of the country, everyone will have to be united. “The job of the opposition is not just to cry for its leader but to participate in the legislation in the parliament.”
Confession of national security and defense institutions
The Chairman of the PPP said that the Pakistan Army is currently being appreciated all over the world. “Our forces have exposed India on the global stage and have not left Modi able to show his face. India has now come down to host Afghan officials, but Pakistan is ahead at every level.”
Declared a historic day
Bilawal Bhutto concluded his speech by saying, “Today is a historic day, we are correcting the mistakes of the past. We are fulfilling the promises made in the Charter of Democracy in the House today. The 27th Constitutional Amendment will prove to be a milestone in Pakistan’s constitutional journey.”
