Web Desk: If you are looking forward to enjoying the long nights of December with Best Series then worry not because streaming platforms are preparing for a packed December as major series roll out new seasons, finales and high-profile debuts from Netflix’s long-awaited conclusion of Stranger Things to fresh sci-fi, Western and documentary releases.
Stranger Things Leads Netflix Lineup
Netflix will close out one of its defining series when the fifth and final season of Stranger Things begins on Nov. 26. Three additional episodes arrive on Dec. 25, followed by the global finale on Dec. 31, which will also screen in selected cinemas across the United States and Canada.
Series co-creator Matt Duffer tells that the season ties up every major storyline, saying, “This is a complete story. It’s done.” Despite the wrap-up, the Duffer brothers have a spin-off in development featuring an all-new cast.
Female-Led Western “The Abandons” Arrives
Meanwhile, Netflix introduces The Abandons on Dec. 4, a Western drama set in 1854. Gillian Anderson and Lena Headey portray two powerful widows battling over land and influence. Headey plays Fiona Nolan, a rancher leading a close-knit group of outcasts, while Anderson portrays Constance Van Ness, a mining heiress intent on seizing Nolan’s property.
The series blends frontier politics with sharp dialogue, placing its sympathies with Nolan’s clan, the Abandons.
Psychological Thriller “Little Disasters” Expands Paramount+ Slate
Paramount+ launches Little Disasters on Dec. 11 in the US and Canada. The psychological thriller stars Diane Kruger as Jess, whose life spirals when her child is brought to the emergency room and a long-time friend, now a doctor, alerts authorities after Jess cannot explain the injury.
Adapted from Sarah Vaughan’s bestselling novel, the series blends suspense with themes of motherhood, loyalty and suspicion.
Doctor Who ‘The War Between the Land and the Sea’
On Dec. 7, BBC One and iPlayer debuts The War Between the Land and the Sea, a Russell T Davies–created spinoff within the Doctor Who universe. The story follows the re-emergence of Homo Aqua a marine species known to longtime fans as the Sea Devils igniting a global crisis.
The ensemble cast includes Russell Tovey, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Jemma Redgrave. Davies described the series as a “spectacular Christmas treat” with an underlying warning about real-world climate conflict. Disney+ will release the show internationally in 2026.
The Copenhagen Test
Peacock closes out the year with The Copenhagen Test on Dec. 27. Simu Liu stars as an intelligence analyst who discovers that his brain has been hacked, allowing infiltrators to access every sight and sound he experiences.
The actor described the show as a blend of high-tech espionage and psychological tension. Horror filmmaker James Wan serves as executive producer.
Taylor Swift Documentary Expands “Eras” Universe
Disney+ adds to Taylor Swift’s growing portfolio with Taylor Swift: The End of an Era on Dec. 12. The six-part documentary takes viewers behind the scenes of the record-breaking Eras Tour, featuring appearances from Sabrina Carpenter, Ed Sheeran, Florence Welch and others.
The platform will also release The Final Show the same day a concert film capturing the last Eras Tour performance in Vancouver, including the complete Tortured Poets Department set.
“Fallout” Returns With New Faces and Higher Stakes
Prime Video’s hit series Fallout returns with its second season, picking up with Lucy (Ella Purnell) and The Ghoul (Walton Goggins) trekking across the Mojave Desert. Their uneasy partnership draws them toward New Vegas, a central location from the video game.
New cast members include Justin Theroux and Macaulay Culkin, joining a roster that continues to expand the show’s gritty post-apocalyptic world.
Emily in Paris Heads to Rome and Beyond
Netflix’s Emily in Paris returns Dec. 18, sending its lead character into a new phase of glamour as she balances life and romance in Rome while still shuttling to Paris and Venice.
The season introduces Bryan Greenberg and Minnie Driver while retaining the show’s signature escapism and glossy aesthetic.
Lavish “Amadeus” Reimagining Hits Screens
Rounding out the month, Sky Atlantic premieres Amadeus on Dec. 21 a reimagining of Peter Shaffer’s classic play. Will Sharpe assumes the role of Mozart, offering a sharper and more self-aware portrayal than the iconic 1984 film.
Paul Bettany plays Salieri, while the series immerses viewers in 18th-century Vienna with grand court settings and an orchestral score.
With major finales, ambitious adaptations and new star-driven productions, streamers appear poised for one of the busiest year-end releases in recent memory.
