Web Desk: Security forces detained 58 Afghan nationals, including women and children, during an operation in the Dasht Mirani area of southern Balochistan, authorities said on Saturday.

The operation was conducted as part of efforts to prevent the illegal movement of people through the region, according to officials. The detainees were taken into custody after security personnel reportedly intercepted an attempt to transport them through the area.

Authorities said the group included Afghan nationals who were allegedly being moved through Pakistan as part of an effort to reach other countries.

Pakistan has long been a transit route for Afghans seeking to leave the country amid economic and social difficulties, as well as other pressures.

According to officials, some migrants turn to human smugglers who promise to facilitate journeys through Pakistan toward Iran, Türkiye and, ultimately, European countries.

Security agencies have continued operations aimed at disrupting networks involved in the illegal movement of people and preventing unauthorized cross-border travel.

The latest arrests in Dasht Mirani form part of those ongoing efforts, officials said.

Following the operation, all 58 detainees were handed over to police for further legal proceedings, authorities said.

Police are expected to determine the next steps under applicable laws, including procedures concerning the detainees’ immigration status and alleged involvement in illegal movement through the country.

Officials did not provide further details about the identities of the detainees or whether any suspected human smugglers were arrested during the operation.

The incident comes as Pakistani authorities continue to tighten checks along routes believed to be used for irregular migration and human smuggling.
