Thirty-six antiquities stolen from Pakistan and smuggled to the United States have been returned to the Government of Pakistan.

The 36 antiquities smuggled to the US will now be brought back to Pakistan.

A ceremony was held at the New York County District Attorney’s Office, where Pakistan’s Consul General in New York, Aamir Ahmad Atozai, signed an agreement in this regard.

Among these antiquities, a Grey Schist Figure of a Yakshi dates back to the 4th century AD, while 35 Terracotta Fertility Figures date back to between 2700 and 3000 BC.

The Consul General said the legal return of the stolen antiquities would provide future generations with an opportunity to learn about their civilization.

US returns stolen artifacts worth $23 million to Pakistan

Earlier this year the United States had returned more than 450 historical and cultural artifacts to Pakistan, a move that reflected growing cooperation between the two countries on preserving heritage.

The precious treasures were exhibited at an exhibition in Islamabad, organized under a bilateral agreement.

Uptill now, the US has returned artifacts valued at approximately $23 million. The exhibition, titled “Legacy Returns Home”, featured a collection that includes statues, Gandhara masterpieces, sculptures, and precious items dating back over 4,000 years.

The artifacts are now preserved in Islamabad’s Sir Syed Memorial Museum, including 150 highlighted items such as Buddha statues, Gandhara masterpieces, and many others highlighting Pakistan rich cultural heritage.
