Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has taken an important step towards making the process of acquiring new electricity connections more rigorous and technologically sound for consumers. Now the online verification of the test report of the electric inspector has been made mandatory for the new domestic, commercial, industrial and tubewell connections. Updated process for new connection
According to LESCO officials, users must now also upload a test report issued by the relevant electric inspector when submitting an online application for a new connection. Demand notices will not be issued to users without online verification of this report. Also read: Bad news for those who want to install an electricity meter
This new system will apply to all types of connections, including domestic, commercial, industrial and agricultural tubewells. Only when the electric inspector's report is certified in the online system will LESCO provide the user with the meter, cable and other necessary equipment, after which the new connection will be installed. Action Objective
According to a LESCO spokesperson, the change is aimed at transparency, safety, and the prevention of illegal connections in the electrical system. This system is designed to ensure safe and quality power supply to customers. Expert Opinion
Energy experts have described LESCO's move as a positive step towards technological improvement. According to him, if the system is implemented effectively, it will not only improve the quality of electricity distribution but also ensure the safety of life and property of consumers, especially in areas where substandard wiring and illegal connections have been causing accidents. Citizens' reservations
A large number of citizens, on the other hand, have termed the move as pragmatically complex and time-consuming. They say that there is already a long wait for a new connection, and now the addition of the electric inspector's approval and its online verification can become a further hurdle for applicants. Future direction
It remains to be seen to what extent LESCO can make this new system effective and user-friendly. If the online verification system is run in a timely and transparent manner, this step can pave the way for reforms in the power sector. However, if bureaucracy or technical deficiencies prevail, users may face difficulties. Citizens are advised to get an inspection done by a certified and licensed electric inspector before submitting the application and get a full test report and upload it along with the online application, to avoid delays.
