The government has delayed the payment of August electricity bills of flood-affected agricultural and commercial electricity consumers until December. According to Power Division sources, the affected customers will pay the August bills in instalments from January to June to reduce the financial burden on them. Overall, domestic and commercial consumers have been given a relief of Rs 17 billion in August bills. Of these, bills worth Rs 11 billion have been waived off to domestic consumers, while a date of Rs 6 billion has been decided in the bills of agricultural and commercial consumers. This step has been taken keeping in mind the convenience of the flood victims. The government has provided relief to about 25 lakh electricity consumers. Domestic consumers who have already paid their bills have been refunded this month, while the fixed amount will be added to the bills from January to June for commercial consumers to make it easier to pay the bills. The floods in Punjab this year have caused huge damage. According to the report of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), about 3,775 cases in 27 districts have been affected due to flooding in the Chenab, Sutlej and Ravi rivers and water from some dams from India. The agricultural sector has suffered a significant loss. Approximately 2.2 million acres of agricultural land were affected, including kharif crops such as cotton, rice, maize and other crops. The destruction of kharif crops has raised fears of an increase in food prices. The government has provided relief to about 25 lakh electricity consumers. Domestic consumers who have already paid bills have been refunded, and commercial consumer bills will include the full fixed phase from January to June so that payments can be made easily.
