The Ministry of Energy has acknowledged that electricity generation has been affected due to the delayed arrival of RLNG cargo, resulting in temporary load management during nighttime hours because of a gas shortage.
According to the Ministry of Energy spokesperson, the unavailability of RLNG has resulted in a shortfall of 3,600 megawatts in electricity generation. Power generation from Mangla Dam has also declined by 195 megawatts, putting additional pressure on electricity supply.
According to the Power Division, temporary load management of 1.5 to 3 hours was carried out during nighttime peak hours. Furnace-oil-fired power plants have also been activated to help meet electricity demand.
The Ministry of Energy spokesperson said temporary load management would be significantly reduced as soon as the RLNG cargo arrives. The Power Division is also awaiting the arrival of the RLNG cargo to improve electricity supply.
The Ministry of Energy has appealed to consumers to use electricity moderately during nighttime hours.
According to the spokesperson, no load management is being carried out nationwide during the daytime. However, load management according to schedule continues in areas with high electricity losses.
The Ministry of Energy also apologized to consumers for the difficulties caused by the unavailability of RLNG.
