Pakistan, Saudi Arabia sign strategic mutual defence pact
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed a strategic mutual defence agreement.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have signed a “Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement” (SMDA), reflecting both countries’ shared commitment to strengthening security and peace in the region and the world.
The pact aims to enhance defence cooperation and ensure joint protection against any acts of aggression. According to the agreement, any hostile action against one country will be considered an act of aggression against both.
During the meeting, both leaders introduced their respective delegations.
The Pakistani delegation included Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Federal Ministers Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Ataullah Tarar, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister for Climate Change Dr Musadik Malik, and Special Assistant Syed Tariq Fatemi.
The signing of the SMDA marks a significant step in defence and strategic cooperation, underlining the strong and enduring ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
PM Shehbaz Sharif meets Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif visited Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and met with Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman at the Royal Court, Yamamah Palace.
Upon arrival, PM Shehbaz was welcomed with a ceremonial reception by Saudi royal protocol, including a mounted guard.
The Crown Prince personally received the Prime Minister, and the Saudi Armed Forces presented a guard of honour.
The bilateral meeting between PM Shehbaz Sharif and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman began at the palace.
Key Pakistani officials accompanying the Prime Minister included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister for Climate Change Dr Musadik Malik, and Special Assistant Syed Tariq Fatemi.
The official meeting at Yamamah Palace highlights the strong ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
In a special gesture, the Royal Saudi Air Force aviation branch of the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces had escorted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s plane as it entered Saudi airspace.
The Prime Minister arrived in Riyadh on Wednesday for an official visit to discuss bilateral relations. He is accompanied by key members of his Cabinet.
During the visit, he is expected to hold a bilateral meeting with the Crown Prince to review the full spectrum of Pakistan–Saudi Arabia relations.
The two leaders are expected to exchange views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.
The visit is expected to result in the formalisation of cooperation across various sectors, highlighting the shared commitment of both countries to strengthen and deepen their longstanding fraternal ties.
