Web desk: During Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar’s visit to Bangladesh, detailed discussions were held on bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation.
In Dhaka, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister attended a key trade meeting, also joined by Pakistan’s Minister for Commerce.
He met with Bangladesh’s Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashir Uddin in a session attended by senior officials and heads of state-owned trade organisations of Bangladesh.
Participants included the Governor of the Bangladesh Bank, the Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, the Chairman of the Trading Corporation, the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority, and the Acting Vice Chairman of the Export Promotion Bureau.
The Commerce and Aviation Secretaries of Bangladesh and the Chairman of the National Board of Revenue were also present.
It is worth noting that the visit of Ishaq Dar is taking place at the invitation of the Bangladeshi government. In Dhaka, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister is holding important meetings with the country’s top leadership.
Earlier, upon his arrival in Dhaka for this historic visit, he was received by Pakistan’s High Commissioner Imran Haider along with senior Bangladeshi officials. Ishaq Dar will stay in Bangladesh from August 23 to 24 on this official visit.
According to the Foreign Office, this is the first official visit by a Pakistani Foreign Minister to Bangladesh in 13 years, reflecting an improvement in relations between the two countries.
The ministry added that Bangladesh’s Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, Pakistan’s High Commissioner Imran Haider, Bangladesh’s High Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Khan and other senior officials welcomed him at Dhaka Airport.
Pakistan, Bangladesh sign six MoUs to boost bilateral ties
Pakistan and Bangladesh have signed six Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) during a ceremony held in Dhaka, witnessed by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister along with Bangladesh’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs.
The two countries formalised six important agreements and MoUs, including:
- An agreement to abolish visas for diplomats and government officials,
- An MoU between the foreign service academies of both countries,
- An MoU between Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) and Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS),
- An MoU between the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) and the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS),
- An MoU for a Joint Working Group on Trade,
- A cultural exchange programme for the years 2025–2028.
