WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature designed to make it easier for users to find old messages within chats.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, the new feature introduces a dedicated search button that can take users directly into search mode without requiring them to leave the chat.
The feature has reportedly been spotted in a new beta version of WhatsApp for iPhone. Currently, iPhone users looking for an old message need to open a contact or group chat, tap the name at the top to access the Chat Info screen, and then select the search option.
While the existing method works, it can be inconvenient, particularly when users are already scrolling through a long conversation.
Under the new feature, a search button would become part of the chat interface. The button would not remain visible at all times; instead, it would appear when users scroll upward through older messages.
Although the change may appear minor, it could significantly simplify the process of searching through lengthy conversations.
As the feature has only been spotted in a beta version, it is not yet clear when WhatsApp will roll it out to all users.
The new messages search shortcut could be specifically useful in lengthy individual and group chats where users often have to scroll through a bulk of messages to locate specific information. If the feature is eventually rolled out widely, it could make searching conversations quicker and more easy for iPhone users.
