A new procedure for obtaining a driving licence has come into effect in Punjab from Thursday introducing stricter deadlines for applicants completing their tests and fee process.
According to traffic authorities, applicants who pass the e-sign test must take the road test within 24 hours. If the road test is not taken within that period, the e-sign test result will expire and the applicant will have to start the process again.
Applicants who pass both the e-sign and road tests must also generate their PSID (Payment Slip ID) within 24 hours. If the PSID is not generated on time, the results of both tests will be cancelled.
After a PSID is generated, applicants will have seven days to deposit the required fee. Failure to pay within seven days will cancel the entire application process.
Authorities said that if the PSID expires, applicants will once again be required to complete both the e-sign and road tests within the prescribed 24-hour period.
Under the new system, the centre where the road test is conducted will submit the applicant’s regular driving licence application.
The DIG Traffic has directed traffic heads in all districts to strictly implement the new procedure and ensure that applications are processed according to the revised rules.
