Students will now be able to enroll in two different university programs at the same time.
The Higher Education Commission has approved the launch of double and joint degree programs, allowing students to pursue two degree programs simultaneously at universities.
According to the HEC decision, it will not be necessary for both programs to belong to the same department or faculty. Previously, students were allowed admission in only one degree program at a time.
Under the new system, a joint degree program is also being introduced, under which a student will be able to complete half of their education at one university and the remaining half at another university.
According to HEC, joint degree programs will require a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two universities along with approval from HEC. These programs may be launched not only in collaboration with universities within Pakistan but also with foreign universities.
The initiative is being considered a significant step towards modernizing the higher education system. It will provide students with greater academic flexibility and broader career opportunities.
Pt is believed that the new move will strengthen academic collaboration between local and international institutions while improving research and student exchange opportunities.
Universities are likely to issue detailed pre-requsites, admission frameworks and eligibility criteria for these programs in the coming months.
