Eid holidays may extend summer vacations

⏱ 2 minute read

Web Desk: Punjab is likely to announce early summer vacations for schools as rising temperatures and heatwave warnings disrupt academic activities across the province.

Officials have started reviewing the closure schedule following weather advisories issued by the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). The agency warned that temperatures in most districts could remain above normal during May, June, and July.

As a result, authorities are considering closing schools earlier than the usual vacation date.

According to local reports, Eid ul Adha holidays are expected from May 27 to May 29. Meanwhile, May 30 and May 31 fall on the weekend. Therefore, officials are discussing the possibility of starting summer vacations from May 27 instead of June 1.

The expected heatwave has also raised concerns about student safety and classroom conditions. In recent years, Punjab authorities have adjusted school schedules during periods of extreme weather.

At the same time, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has proposed reducing the duration of summer and winter vacations in the future. He said the government wants to recover academic losses and increase annual school days from 180 to 190.

Meanwhile, several private schools have requested permission to hold summer camps during the vacation period. They proposed running classes from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. to avoid peak daytime heat while continuing academic activities.

So far, the Punjab government has not issued a final notification regarding the revised summer vacation schedule.
