Web Desk: Citizens in Pakistan can expect several extended breaks throughout May 2026, as multiple public holidays align with weekends to create longer periods of rest.

The month starts with a confirmed long weekend due to Labour Day falling on Friday, May 1. This schedule combines with the following Saturday and Sunday to provide a three-day holiday for both public and private sector employees. Furthermore, additional extended breaks are anticipated later in the month as the nation prepares for Eid al-Adha and Youm-e-Takbeer.

According to Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet on May 17 to sight the Zil Hajj moon. If the moon appears on that evening, the government will likely announce Eid holidays from Wednesday, May 27, to Friday, May 29. Such a scenario would result in a continuous five-day break extending through the weekend. Conversely, if the lunar month completes 30 days, Eid may fall on Thursday and Friday, resulting in a four-day holiday period.

Meanwhile, the federal holiday calendar identifies May 28 as Youm-e-Takbeer, which celebrates Pakistan’s nuclear tests. Since this date coincides with the expected Eid period, it adds to the festive atmosphere across the country. Beyond May, the government’s 2026 schedule includes Ashura holidays on June 24 and 25, Independence Day on August 14, and Eid Milad-un-Nabi on August 25.

Travelers and families are already planning for these breaks, as the alignment of religious and national holidays provides a rare opportunity for consecutive days off. While the final Eid dates remain subject to the lunar sighting, the presence of fixed holidays like Labour Day ensures that May will be a month of significant leisure for the Pakistani workforce
