Web Desk: Apple has released the latest version of its mobile operating system, iOS 26.1, bringing refined customization tools, expanded language support and stronger background security features to iPhone users.
The update introduces more flexibility in how users experience the interface. A new toggle lets users adjust the transparency of Apple’s signature “Liquid Glass” design, improving visibility for those who prefer higher contrast. Apple has also added an option to disable the swipe-to-camera shortcut on the Lock Screen, preventing unintentional launches, a small but practical change many users have requested.
Expanded AI and language capabilities
Apple continues to advance its artificial intelligence integration by broadening the language support for Apple Intelligence and AirPods’ Live Translation. New languages, including Danish, Turkish, Japanese and Traditional Chinese are now available. Additionally, users can now use swipe gestures in Apple Music to skip songs directly from the Now Playing bar, making in-app navigation more intuitive. The update also refines audio and video recording settings, allowing more control over formats and storage locations.
Stronger background security protection
With iOS 26.1, Apple has enhanced its background security system, automatically installing key security fixes between major updates. This feature aims to keep devices protected without requiring users to manually download patches, reinforcing Apple’s focus on seamless, proactive defense.
Rollout schedule and compatibility
While Apple has not provided an exact launch date, iOS 26.1 is expected to be available to the public in early November. The update will support all devices compatible with iOS 26, including the iPhone 11 and newer models.
