Yasir Sultan secured bronze with a final-attempt of 77.43m at the Asian Throwing Championships held in Korea, placing Pakistan third behind Sri Lanka and Japan.

Yasir Sultan bronze

Sultan’s sixth-round throw lifted him onto the podium after a series featuring a foul, 75.79m, two low-70m efforts and another foul.

Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage won gold with 82.05m, while Japan’s Gen Naganuma claimed silver at 78.60m.

The mark improved Sultan’s season best but fell short of automatic qualification for the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025.

The men’s entry standard in World Athletics Championships is 85.50m. The championships is schedule from 13–21 September in Tokyo.

Event context underscored the challenge. Evidently, none of the finalists crossed 85m on the day despite 17 top athletes contested the medal spots.

Sultan’s bronze follows his 2023 Asian Championship bronze at 79.93m, continuing a steady record of podiums.

Pakistan’s new javelin hope

“This was our last chance to qualify for the 2025 World Athletics Championships; we expected a mark for Tokyo but couldn’t manage it,” coach Fiaz Bokhari told the private media from Korea, adding that heat affected performances.

Pakistan officials and fans hailed the result as another positive step for the country’s throws programme, with the Pakistan Sports Board highlighting the season-best effort in posts celebrating the medal.

In last Olympics’ Pakistan’s star thrower Arshad Nadeem won gold by throwing javeling more than 90 meters which made him aspiration for athletes like Yasir Sultan.

Similarly, supporters see momentum alongside the nation’s growing profile in javelin.

Juvelin coaches says next steps for Yasir Sultan now shift to building consistency above 80m and targeting upcoming meets flagged by the coaching team.

Coach Bokhari said the focus will move to future qualification windows, including Islamic Solidarity events and Commonwealth pathways, as the World Championships entry window closes.
