Web Desk: Pakistan has formally launched 5G services across the country, marking a major step toward high-speed digital connectivity, the telecom regulator said on Thursday.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued 5G licenses to three mobile operators during a ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s House. Following the signing process, the PTA’s Director General Licensing handed over the licenses to company representatives, paving the way for commercial rollout.

Shortly after receiving its license, Jazz announced the launch of its 5G service, activating the network at 180 sites in the initial phase. The rollout connects key urban centers including Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, and Quetta, while services are also being introduced in Rawalpindi, Multan, and Faisalabad.

The launch signals Pakistan’s entry into a faster digital era, with authorities and industry leaders highlighting the potential for innovation, improved connectivity, and economic growth. Telecom operators are expected to expand coverage in phases as infrastructure develops.

Jazz described the move as a strategic step to accelerate the country’s digital ecosystem, adding that expansion of its 4G network will continue alongside 5G deployment.

Jazz Chief Executive Officer Aamir Ibrahim said the introduction of 5G marks the beginning of a new technological phase in Pakistan, opening doors to innovation, speed, and new economic opportunities. He added that efforts would focus on extending digital services to a broader population.

According to company details, Jazz secured spectrum across multiple key bands, including 700 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2600 MHz, and 3500 MHz, positioning it to maintain network presence across different coverage layers.

The development underscores growing momentum in Pakistan’s telecom sector as it seeks to modernize infrastructure and meet rising demand for high-speed data services.
