Web Desk: Pakistan intensified its diplomatic engagement with Iran as Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held high-level talks in Tehran focused on easing regional tensions, advancing ceasefire efforts and discussing ongoing diplomatic contacts between the United States and Iran, according to officials and Iranian media reports.

During a key meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Naqvi discussed the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East, efforts to prevent further escalation and prospects for regional stability. Iranian media reported that both sides also exchanged views on Pakistan’s mediation efforts and explored a coordinated approach to promoting sustainable peace in the region.

The talks come amid heightened geopolitical uncertainty across the Middle East and growing diplomatic activity aimed at preventing a broader regional conflict.

Before meeting Araghchi, Naqvi held separate discussions with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni. The two officials focused on ways to halt military escalation, support an immediate ceasefire and advance diplomatic negotiations.

According to officials familiar with the discussions, both ministers agreed that any new conflict or instability would have far-reaching consequences for neighboring countries and the wider Islamic world. They stressed dialogue and diplomacy as the most effective path toward resolving regional disputes.

Speaking to reporters in Tehran after the meetings, Naqvi said he had arrived carrying important messages from Pakistan’s leadership concerning regional security and ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Naqvi said he delivered a special letter from Pakistan’s military leadership addressing recent regional developments and security challenges. He also conveyed a strategic message from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, which he said had been handed over to Iranian authorities.

He expressed confidence that continued diplomatic engagement by Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership could help reduce tensions and contribute to resolving the current crisis.

Naqvi also praised the diplomatic efforts of Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Araghchi and Interior Minister Momeni.

The Tehran visit highlights Pakistan’s attempt to position itself as a bridge between regional and international stakeholders at a time of increasing tensions involving Iran and the United States.

Pakistan has long maintained relations with both Tehran and Washington and has previously sought to facilitate communication during periods of heightened friction between the two countries.

The discussions on US-Iran contacts underscore Islamabad’s ambition to play a constructive diplomatic role and strengthen its standing as a credible intermediary in regional affairs.

The simultaneous delivery of messages from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan’s military leadership signals a coordinated approach toward regional diplomacy and relations with Iran.

The outreach to several of Iran’s most influential political figures as evidence that Islamabad is pursuing a broader diplomatic framework aimed at preventing further instability in the Middle East.

As diplomatic efforts accelerate across the region, Pakistan appears to be expanding its engagement with key regional actors in an effort to support dialogue, reduce tensions and encourage a negotiated path forward.
