ICC expresses concern over rise of franchise cricket; forms special committee, suspends Cricket Canada membership

The International Cricket Council (International Cricket Council) board has expressed concern over the growing trend of franchise cricket worldwide and has decided to form a special committee.

In the meeting, it was decided that a dedicated committee will be established to maintain a balance between franchise cricket and international cricket. The committee will review the international cricket calendar and the schedules of various franchise leagues and will prepare recommendations to ensure harmony between both formats of the game.

On the other hand, the ICC board also decided to suspend the membership of Cricket Canada (Cricket Canada). However, despite the suspension, Canada’s national cricket team will continue to participate in ICC events.

It was also decided in the meeting that a two-member ICC delegation will visit Bangladesh, where it will review the electoral process of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (Bangladesh Cricket Board).

The board also expressed concerns over the increasing workload on international players due to overlapping domestic franchise leagues and international fixtures. The board members highlighted that without proper scheduling coordination, player availability, injuries, and the overall quality of international cricket could be affected. The committee is expected to work closely with member boards to develop a more sustainable long-term global cricket structure.
