Monsoon floods in the foothills of the Sulaiman Range have uncovered a trove of centuries-old coins and artifacts. The discovery reinforces DG Khan’s historic role as a cultural and trade corridor and opens new doors for research, tourism, and jobs.

Local residents hand over 400–500 coins to officials

A special archaeology team led by Deputy Director Salman Tanveer visited Sakhi Sarwar with Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Usman Khalid and Political Assistant Amir Taimoor.

Local residents voluntarily handed over 400 to 500 coins to the district administration for preservation.

Authorities said certificates of appreciation and rewards will be recommended for this public-spirited gesture, setting a strong example of community stewardship for Pakistan’s heritage.

Archaeology team plans excavation, research, and tourism hub

Deputy Commissioner Usman Khalid said the find will highlight the region’s cultural importance worldwide and can drive tourism, academic study, and local employment.

The team was dispatched on directives from Secretary Tourism, Archaeology and Museums Ehsan Bhutta and Commissioner DG Khan Division Ashfaq Ahmed Chaudhry.

Officials noted that the area once served as a vital passage for ancient caravans, shaping DG Khan as a unique cultural hub.

Recommendations are now being prepared to develop the site as a research centre and visitor attraction with proper conservation.

Diverse coinage traces trade links across eras and regions

Experts examining the coins report a wide span of dynasties and regions.

The samples include pieces from the Mughals, Tughlaqs, Sikh rule, Kushan king Vima Deva Kaniska, the Durrani and Lodi dynasties, the British period, and coins linked to Nadir Shah, Bahadur Shah Zafar, Central Asia, and the Arab world.

This diversity points to deep, long-standing trade and cultural exchange through DG Khan.

With systematic excavations and careful cataloguing, authorities expect more finds that will strengthen Pakistan’s heritage profile and create sustainable opportunities for local communities.
