Flour prices hit record high as wheat rates surge in Pakistan

Web desk: After sugar, wheat and flour prices in Pakistan have also witnessed a sudden and sharp increase, adding to the already rising inflation crisis.

The latest hike in flour prices has badly affected the public, with wheat prices pushing retail flour to record highs, making daily life even more difficult for ordinary citizens.

Flour prices in Pakistan

According to details, the price of wheat has surged from Rs55 to Rs72 per kilo.

This increase has raised wholesale flour prices, with chakki (No2.5) flour going up by Rs15 per kilo and fine flour by Rs9 per kilo.

In wholesale markets, No2.5 flour is now being sold at Rs81 per kilo, while fine flour costs Rs87 per kilo.

The chairman of the Wholesale Grocers Association said the government must immediately take notice of the rise in wheat and flour prices. He explained that earlier, No2.5 flour was available at Rs66 per kilo and fine flour at Rs78 per kilo.

In retail, No2.5 flour has now become costlier by Rs6 per kilo and fine flour by Rs8 per kilo, pushing retail prices to Rs110 and Rs120 per kilo, respectively.

This latest surge in flour prices has dealt another major blow to people already struggling with inflation.

Some experts blame uncontrolled wheat prices, negligible administrative controls and hoarding as some of the reasons which have compounded the situation.

Massive wheat and flour crises have traders and analysts wanting the government to crack down and urgently deal with the problem before it gets out of hand in the upcoming days, whereby the inflation wave may escalate.
