Web desk: A meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to sight the moon of Rabi-ul-Awwal will be held today in Islamabad.

The meeting will be chaired by the Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad. Members of the committee, representatives from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, SUPARCO, the Meteorological Department, and the Ministry of Science and Technology will attend.

In addition, zonal committee meetings will be held in Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, and other regions. The final announcement regarding moon sighting will be made by the Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

SUPARCO has also indicated strong chances of sighting the Rabi-ul-Awwal moon on August 24. According to SUPARCO, the birth of the Rabi-ul-Awwal moon will occur on August 23 at 11:06AM, and there are strong chances of sighting the crescent on August 24.

In coastal areas, the time gap between sunset and moonset is expected to be around 45 minutes, creating favourable conditions for sighting, provided the weather remains clear.

According to SUPARCO, the 1st of Rabi-ul-Awwal is likely to fall on Monday, August 25, while the final decision will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

Meanwhile, the Rabi-ul-Awwal moon has already been sighted in Saudi Arabia, where the 1st of Rabi-ul-Awwal 1447 Hijri is being observed today, on August 24.

The official Haramain account on X posted a photo, stating that the Makkah Clock Tower was illuminated to announce the arrival of Rabi-ul-Awwal.

According to Arab media, Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court confirmed that 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal will fall on September 4, 2025.

Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) is an important occasion for Muslims as it marks the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

On this day, believers organise religious gatherings, prayers, recitation of the Holy Qur’an, processions, and events to promote unity and harmony.
