What is the expected price of iPhone 18?

⏱ 3 minute read

Web Desk: Apple Inc. is poised to spotlight a new wave of artificial intelligence features at its upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference, with iOS 27 and its expanded Apple Intelligence platform expected to debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro.

Although the premium handset’s launch price is forecast to remain steady, consumers may ultimately face higher overall ownership costs as AI-driven services become more deeply embedded in the ecosystem.

Apple enters the iPhone 18 Pro production cycle amid mounting pressure on component pricing. Persistent supply limitations and surging demand for advanced memory and storage critical for AI-powered devices have tightened margins across the consumer electronics industry.

Several manufacturers have already raised prices in response to higher production bills. In contrast, Apple is expected to hold the iPhone 18 Pro at $1,099, matching the previous model, in a bid to safeguard early demand and maintain its competitive positioning.

However, industry watchers note that sustaining that price point may require Apple to absorb short-term increases in manufacturing expenses.

At the same time, the growing integration of generative AI tools is reshaping cost structures. While many AI functions operate on-device, more complex processes increasingly rely on cloud computing infrastructure.

Apple’s Private Cloud Compute framework emphasises user privacy, but operating large-scale AI servers carries substantial expense. Analysts believe the company could initially absorb these infrastructure costs before gradually distributing them across the product lifecycle.

Meanwhile, Apple appears to be accelerating its AI strategy through collaboration. Reporting by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman indicates the company has turned to Google for support, potentially incorporating Gemini models and Google Cloud services to enhance Siri’s capabilities.

Such arrangements may help Apple narrow the AI gap with competitors, but they also introduce additional contractual and operational costs.

Consequently, attention has shifted to how Apple plans to monetise its expanding AI toolkit.

Consumers have shown growing resistance to paying extra fees after purchasing high-end smartphones. Nevertheless, recurring digital services have become a cornerstone of revenue for device makers.

Apple’s bundled subscription offering, Apple One, already packages music streaming, video content and cloud storage under a monthly plan. Observers expect advanced Apple Intelligence features to follow a similar route, potentially integrating into subscription tiers rather than carrying a separate upfront charge.

Rivals such as Google and Samsung have expanded AI features while blending complimentary tools with paid upgrades. Market analysts suggest Apple may tread cautiously when introducing premium AI tiers to avoid alienating customers who expect robust functionality at the point of purchase.

Over time, however, AI services could follow the path of cloud storage evolving from optional extras into essential, subscription-based components of the smartphone experience.

Even if Apple maintains the iPhone 18 Pro’s base price at $1,099, additional AI-related subscriptions could increase annual spending for users. Analysts estimate that comprehensive AI access, if priced comparably to other digital services, could add roughly $15 per month.

Bundled within Apple One, such fees may appear less visible at checkout. Yet over a year, they could significantly lift the effective cost of ownership.

As Apple prepares to unveil its latest software advancements, the headline price of its flagship device may stay intact. Still, the broader transition toward AI-powered subscriptions suggests that the true cost of owning the next-generation iPhone could climb steadily in the years ahead.
