Police said on Thursday that a two-month-old baby girl, Palwasha, was allegedly killed by her parents in the Harnoli area.
According to investigators, the parents were unhappy over the birth of another daughter and allegedly drowned the infant in a household water tank. Police have arrested the father, Shahzad, who confessed that he committed the act at the request of his wife. He told officers he had been hoping for a son.
Authorities have registered a murder case against both parents, with Syed Anwar, ASI of Harnoli Police Station, as the complainant. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the mother, who is currently on the run.
Police called the killing a deeply disturbing incident and said the investigation would be conducted with “complete seriousness.” The child’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination as part of medico-legal procedures.
