Aleema Khan’s son Shahrez Khan sent on physical remand in May 9 violence case

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s nephew and Aleema Khan’s son, Shahrez Khan, has been sent on eight-day physical remand by anti-terrorism court in connection with the May 9 riots case.

As per details, the police officials stated that the accused was arrested from Zaman Park a day earlier and was presented before the court for further investigation and recovery.

During the hearing, Police had requested physical remand however Shahrez counsel, Salman Akram Raja, opposed the remand plea

However, the court accepted the police request and granted an eight-day remand.

Earlier, Lahore police confirmed the arrest of Shahrez Khan, the son of PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan, in cases linked to the May 9 riots.

Officials said he was detained in connection with the investigations of May 9 probe.

According to the DIG Investigations Lahore, he will be produced before a court today.

May 9 Violence

The arrest comes a day after the Supreme Court granted Imran Khan bail in eight May 9 cases.

Despite the momentary relief from higher courts, he remains in jail due to other convictions and pending trials.

PTI fleaders earlier claimed that Shahrez had been “abducted” by men in plain clothes during a raid at the family’s Lahore home.

On the contrary, Lahore police clarified he was under arrest in a May 9 case.

On May 9, 2023, nationwide protests erupted after the arrest of former PM Imran Khan. These riots turned violent, with attacks on military installations and public property.

Thousands were detained as authorities opened multiple cases across Punjab and other provinces related to unprecedented violent protest.

Despite getting bail on cases related to May 9 protests, PTI leader, imprisoned since 2023. Due to his involvements in matters related to mega corruption scandals.
