PTA licenses eight VPN providers to boost secure internet use

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has granted official licenses to eight virtual private network (VPN) service providers, marking a significant step toward ensuring safe and authorized VPN usage across the country.

According to PTA, the new licensing initiative was introduced to regulate VPN services, allowing only authorized providers to operate and eliminating illegal or unsafe networks. This move aims to strengthen cybersecurity and data privacy in Pakistan.

In an official statement, PTA confirmed that the newly licensed companies are fully authorized to offer VPN services nationwide. These providers will deliver secure, legal, and high-quality VPN access in compliance with the country’s laws and regulations.

For VPN users, PTA has clarified that there will no longer be a need to separately register their IP addresses or mobile numbers to use VPNs. This change will simplify access and eliminate the difficulties that previously arose from the registration process. Users can now directly access VPN services from any licensed provider without additional registration.

Digital experts have welcomed PTA’s decision, calling it a positive step for data privacy and business communication in Pakistan. The move is particularly beneficial for individuals and organizations that rely on VPNs for secure international communication and data exchange.

PTA emphasised that the new licensing framework will promote transparency and cyber-security while keeping VPN usage within legal boundaries, supporting the growth of a safer internet environment in the country.
