Web Desk: Peshawar Civil Secretariat was reportedly shut early on Friday amid security concerns, with employees instructed to leave their offices immediately, according to sources.
Sources said provincial government employees at the secretariat were granted leave and directed to vacate the premises, while official vehicles were also ordered to leave the complex.
Several other government offices in Peshawar were reportedly closed as part of the security measures. These included the Excise Department office on Shami Road and offices of the Health and Information departments on Warsak Road.
The Civil Secretariat houses the offices of secretaries from around 36 provincial departments. However, the Chief Secretary’s Office remained open, while most other departments, except the Establishment and Administration Department, were reportedly closed.
According to sources, the measures were taken following concerns about a possible suicide attack targeting the Civil Secretariat.
Sources also said authorities had raised concerns about a possible attack during Friday prayers at mosques associated with the Finance and Planning and Development departments.
The reported security measures come as authorities continue to monitor potential threats in Peshawar and other sensitive areas.
