The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) conducted an intelligence-based operation on Warsak Road in Peshawar, where one terrorist was killed in an exchange of fire, while a CTD official was martyred and three others injured.
According to private a TV channel, credible intelligence indicated that three suicide attackers had entered Peshawar and were preparing to target a sensitive installation. Based on intelligence inputs and detailed technical analysis, CTD teams and district police, accompanied by personnel from a relevant intelligence agency, launched an intelligence-based operation in the Garhi Sherdad area of Warsak Road.
The statement said that an effective cordon was established in the area during the operation, while surveillance was also conducted through drones. During the operation, one terrorist reached a rooftop and attempted to escape while firing at the CTD team. The CTD personnel responded effectively.
In the exchange of fire, CTD official Muhammad Afaq embraced martyrdom, while three other personnel were injured. Effective action by the forces resulted in the killing of the terrorist.
According to the CTD, three headbands inscribed with the Kalma Tayyaba were also recovered from the slain terrorist. A search and clearance operation is ongoing to apprehend the remaining two terrorists.
Additional personnel have been deployed in the area, while the search operation is being expanded further in view of potential threats.
The statement said that the operation was personally commanded by the Additional Inspector General of CTD Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed and the Additional IG CTD praised the courage and morale of the officers and personnel who participated in the operation, expressing their resolve to thwart terrorists’ nefarious designs at all costs. They reiterated that CTD and police operations would continue until terrorism is completely eliminated.
