Indian cricketer and Delhi Capitals player in the Indian Premier League, Abhishek Porel, has been arrested in a case involving allegations of rape, criminal intimidation, and other serious charges following a complaint by a medical student.
According to Indian media, police have confirmed Abhishek Porel’s arrest. The case was registered in June this year following a complaint by a medical student.
The woman alleged that she had been in a relationship with Abhishek Porel for the past three years. She claimed that Porel promised to marry her and, based on that promise, had sexual relations with her. However, she alleged that he later refused to marry her and began distancing himself from her.
The woman further alleged that Porel assaulted her and issued criminal threats against her. After receiving the complaint, police began an investigation.
Later, the Calcutta High Court directed police to arrest Abhishek Porel in the case. Following the court’s direction, police took the cricketer into custody.
Indian media reports that Abhishek Porel had previously denied the allegations.
According to Indian media, the 27-year-old left-handed batter has represented Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League since 2023. In the previous season, he scored 108 runs in four innings for Delhi Capitals.
Indian media reports that the allegations made by the woman against the cricketer have not yet been proven in court, and further investigation into the case is ongoing.
