Web Desk: Security forces shot and killed a man after he opened fire on a security vehicle on Mall Road in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, security sources said.

The vehicle was carrying personnel on routine duty when the man, identified by the sources as Muhammad Hussain, fired at it with a 9mm pistol.

The personnel returned fire in self-defence in accordance with law and standard operating procedures, resulting in the man’s death, the sources said.

Security sources identified the deceased as a resident of Khyber district and alleged that he was an active member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.

The sources also said security personnel recovered a party flag, a weapon, ammunition and documents from his possession.

The allegations about Hussain’s political affiliation and the recovered material could not be independently verified.

Security forces responded promptly to the shooting, according to the sources.

Authorities have launched further investigations into the incident, including the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the identity and activities of the deceased, the sources said.
