Web Desk: The Punjab government has decided to retract its appeals in the Supreme Court concerning the bail of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi. On Wednesday, state prosecutors informed the court that they had been directed to withdraw the challenges, prompting the Supreme Court to dismiss the case accordingly.
In a separate development, the Supreme Court also adjourned the Cipher appeal case without taking any substantive action. Prosecutors requested additional time, noting that a detailed verdict had not yet been submitted. During proceedings, Barrister Salman Safdar appeared at the bench, explaining that he had not received formal notice regarding the case. Justice Muhammad Hashim Kakar responded that the court could issue him notice if required, while noting that the admissibility of the appeal had not yet been determined. The court subsequently allowed more time for submission of the detailed judgment and adjourned the hearing indefinitely.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court continues to hear multiple cases involving Imran Khan. The top court had scheduled six cases related to the PTI founder for February 18, including matters concerning Bushra Bibi and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi. A three-member bench, headed by Justice Muhammad Hashim Kakar and comprising Justices Salahuddin Panhwar and Ishtiaq Ibrahim, is presiding over these matters.
Among the cases listed for hearing are appeals against the Islamabad High Court’s suspension of the sentence in the Toshakhana criminal case, as well as previous challenges filed by the Punjab government regarding the bail granted to Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.
