Former England and Yorkshire all-rounder Ken Taylor has died at the age of 91.
Born in Huddersfield, Ken Taylor made his first-class debut for Yorkshire at the age of just 17. He played 303 first-class matches during his career and remained an important player for Yorkshire for several years.
Taylor played a part in helping Yorkshire win seven County Championship titles between 1959 and 1968. Yorkshire regarded him as one of the most versatile and talented players of his generation.
As a batsman, he scored 12,864 runs in first-class cricket, including 16 centuries. His best individual innings was an unbeaten 203 against Warwickshire at Edgbaston in 1961.
Ken Taylor was not limited to batting and was also an effective medium-pace bowler. He took 129 wickets and held 146 catches during his first-class career.
In the traditional Roses match against Lancashire at Old Trafford in 1961, Ken Taylor produced an impressive bowling performance, taking six wickets for 75 runs.
Alongside cricket, he was also involved in football and played as a defender for Huddersfield Town.
Moreover, he was a gifted artist who qualified at Slade School of Fine Arts, London, and was later appointed head of art at Gresham’s School in Norfolk, where he lived until his death.”
Taylor played three Test matches for England, twice against India in 1959 and once against Australia in 1964.
He joined Huddersfield Town after leaving school in 1950 and made 269 appearances for the club between 1953 and 1965, before later playing for Bradford Park Avenue.
