KARACHI: The Sindh government launched special “Azadi Train” which departed from Karachi’s City Station to Zero Point, Tharparkar.
The Azadi train, organized by Pakistan Railways ahead of Independence day, carried over 100 passengers.
The special train, the Thar Desert Train Safari, was renamed the “Azadi Train” to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day.
According to Associated Press of Pakistan, the train’s journey began at Karachi Cantt Station, passing through Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, and Umerkot before reaching Chhor Cantt in Umerkot by evening. The train will return to Karachi on the evening of August 14.
The departure ceremony was attended by Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Memon and Minister Zulfiqar Shah. Passengers will distribute national flags at each station along the route to celebrate 14 August.
A musical event is also planned at Parchi Ji Veri on the first day, while a flag-hoisting ceremony and cake-cutting event will take place at Marvi Station in Khokhrapar on August 14 before the train’s return journey.
“This initiative is designed to celebrate Independence Day with great enthusiasm and honor the historic success of the Ma’raka-e-Haq,” said Minister Zulfiqar Shah, stating, “The entire nation salutes the eternal sacrifices made for Pakistan’s freedom.”
It is pertinent to note here that Karachi is all set to host Pakistan’s Independence Day and the “Marka-e-Haq” event, with a musical night to take place at National Stadium.
To facilitate karachiites the city’s traffic police has issued traffic and parking plan across the provincial capital.
The Karachi traffic police stated that only vehicles displaying special stickers will be permitted to enter the National Stadium through Gate No. 1 and Gate No. 11. For attendees, parking facilities have been arranged at the Expo Centre and China Ground, with shuttle services to the stadium.
