Veteran Pakistani actor Javed Sheikh has revealed that he accepted the offer to work alongside Shah Rukh Khan in the 2007 Bollywood blockbuster Om Shanti Om for a symbolic fee of just Re 1.
The actor recently appeared as a guest on a private TV programme, where he described his experience of working with Shah Rukh Khan as truly remarkable.
He said that India’s hospitality, humility and generosity are beyond words.
Javed Sheikh also shared that Shah Rukh Khan’s modesty and courteous nature left a deep impression on him, and that the superstar’s conduct during the filming has stayed with him ever since.
He explained that the film’s director, Farah Khan, personally offered him the role of Shah Rukh Khan’s father. However, when the production team later contacted him to finalise the contract, he declined to accept any payment for the film.
According to Javed Sheikh, being chosen for an important role in such a major Bollywood production was itself an honour, and representing Pakistan in a film of that stature meant far more to him than financial compensation.
The actor further revealed that when the production manager insisted that a professional artist could not work without payment, he agreed to accept only Re 1 as his fee. His unexpected response surprised both Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan.
Javed Sheikh added that the filmmakers appreciated his sincerity and dedication but did not allow him to work for merely a symbolic payment. Instead, they paid him an amount that exceeded even his own expectations.
