In a remarkable technological milestone, China has stunned the world as a robot outperformed human runners to win a half marathon race.
The Android humanoid robot named “Lightning,” developed by a Chinese company, completed the 21-kilometer half marathon in Beijing in just 50 minutes and 26 seconds.
With this performance, it surpassed the human world record by more than six minutes.
Ugandan runner Jacob Kiplimo previously held the world record, completing the same distance in 57 minutes and 20 seconds.
The 169-centimeter-tall red humanoid robot demonstrated exceptional speed and balance throughout the race, maintaining its pace without any signs of fatigue until the finish line.
Experts believe its autonomous navigation system and high-speed capabilities played a decisive role in this success.
This achievement highlights China’s rapidly growing technological strength, especially at a time when it is competing with the United States in advanced robotics.
China’s focused investment in robotics since 2015, along with its 2023 policy declaring humanoid robots as the future of technology, has laid the foundation for such breakthroughs.
In recent years, robot sports competitions have also gained popularity in China, clearly reflecting the rapid advancement of this field.
It is worth noting that recently Chinese robots had exhibited awe- inspiring performances of martial arts and dance in a competition, indicating Chinese advancement in AI driven robots.
