Web Desk: Internet personality, social activist and psychologist Dr Nabiha Ali Khan has filed for khula, or judicial dissolution of marriage, from her husband Haris Khokhar, citing allegations of mental and physical abuse, according to court documents and public statements.
The petition has been submitted to a family court through her lawyer, Chaudhry Mudassar Advocate, while legal notice and court documents have also been served on her husband.
In her petition, Dr. Nabiha alleged that her husband subjected her to inappropriate behavior, verbal abuse and physical violence during their marriage.
She told the court that the relationship had become irreparable and requested that a decree of khula be granted, saying she no longer wished to continue the marriage.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and Haris Khokhar has not publicly responded in detail to the claims.
Following the court filing, Dr. Nabiha shared a video on her Facebook account showing herself signing the khula documents.
In the video, she expressed hope that no woman would have to endure similar circumstances after marriage.
“Every woman deserves to live with dignity, respect and peace of mind,” she said, describing her decision as a difficult but necessary step.
Dr. Nabiha announced her engagement and marriage to Haris Khokhar last year, a development that drew considerable attention from her followers.
However, reports of marital differences surfaced within months of the wedding.
In an earlier television interview, she disclosed that the marriage was going through severe challenges and acknowledged that divorce had become a possibility if reconciliation efforts failed.
Dr. Nabiha has previously said she made significant personal and professional sacrifices to preserve the relationship.
According to her earlier statements, she devoted time to household responsibilities, cared for her in-laws and reduced her professional commitments in an effort to strengthen the marriage.
Despite those efforts, she said, the relationship continued to deteriorate.
She also alleged that her husband’s behavior was influenced by his family in ways that negatively affected their marriage.
The family court is expected to hear arguments from both parties before deciding on the khula petition.
As of now, Haris Khokhar has not issued a comprehensive public statement addressing the allegations made against him, and the legal proceedings remain ongoing.
