NANKANA SAHIB: The three-day grand celebrations marking the 556th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak have begun in Nankana Sahib with vibrant religious and cultural events. Sikh pilgrims from around the world continue to arrive in the city to participate in the festivities and perform their religious rituals.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Tasleem Akhtar Rao visited Gurdwara Janam Asthan to review the arrangements and expressed satisfaction over the preparations. More than 2,000 Sikh pilgrims from India are scheduled to arrive tomorrow via the Wagah Border, where special arrangements have been made to welcome them.
The district administration has ensured excellent facilities for both local and foreign pilgrims. Foolproof security measures have been put in place, with over 5,000 officers and personnel deployed for the service and protection of the visitors. Facilitation centers, banks, and currency exchange booths have been set up, while a mini-hospital has been established at Gurdwara Janam Asthan to provide medical assistance.
Dispensaries and rescue camps have been arranged at all seven gurdwaras, and the traditional langar (community kitchen) has been organized on a large scale. The administration is monitoring the distribution to ensure hygiene and quality.
Cleanliness drives have been carried out across the gurdwaras and the city, while a free shuttle service is also being provided for the convenience of pilgrims.
The main ceremony will take place on November 5 at Gurdwara Janam Asthan, with around 30,000 local and international pilgrims expected to attend. Federal and provincial ministers will also participate in the event, according to a spokesperson of the district administration.
The celebrations will conclude on November 6 in Nankana Sahib.
