The Pakistan Cricket Board has imposed a one-year ban on Dasun Shanaka, the captain of Sri Lanka’s T20 team, over a breach of contract. As a result, Shanaka will not be able to participate in the upcoming PSL Season 12.
According to PCB, the action was taken after Shanaka breached the PSL player registration agreement. Reports say that on March 21, the Sri Lankan all-rounder unilaterally decided to withdraw from the tournament despite being part of the draft and contractual process.
This move was considered a direct breach of the commitments required from players once they enter the league’s registration system.
The PCB maintains strict regulations regarding player contracts to ensure the credibility and smooth functioning of the league, which has become one of the most prominent T20 competitions in the world.
Authorities believe that enforcing such rules is necessary to protect franchises and maintain fairness for all stakeholders involved.
After the move, Shanaka admitted his mistake and issued an apology for violating the agreement. However, the board proceeded with disciplinary action, making it clear that contract breaches will not be taken for granted, regardless of a player’s stature or international standing.
in similar move earlier, Zimbabwean fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani was handed a two-year ban for a similar violation of PSL contract terms.
These actions highlight the board’s consistent approach toward enforcing discipline and contractual regulations.
The development serves as a precedence to international and local players alike: once commitments are made to the PSL, backing out without proper justification can lead to serious consequences.
