South Africa is all set to host World Cup 2027 as Cricket South Africa (CSA) has unveiled venues for the biggest cricket event.

CSA announced the formation of a local organising committee for the ODI World Cup 2027 and has also revealed the eight venues for the showpiece event it will host.

Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein, East London and Paarl will host 44 out of 54 ODI World Cup matches will be held at eight different venues across South Africa, with the remaining 10 matches taking place in Zimbabwe and Namibia.

The three African nations, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya are set to host the next edition of the men’s 50-over tournament in October and November of 2027.

South Africa’s history of hosting ICC men’s events includes the 2009 Champions Trophy and the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, as well as being a co-host for the 2003 Men’s ODI World Cup. Furthermore, the country has also successfully hosted two Women’s World Cups: the 2005 50-over competition and the 2023 T20 World Cup, where the Proteas reached the final before losing to Australia.

Moreover, former South African finance minister Trevor Manuel has been appointed to lead the local organizing committee for the 2027 Cricket World Cup. In an official statement, Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed the eight South African host cities for the matches: Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein, East London, and Paarl.

“CSA’s vision is to stage a global, inspiring event which will reflects the face of South Africa — diverse, inclusive, and united,” CSA chairperson Pearl Maphoshe stated.

As hosts, South Africa and Zimbabwe have already secured their spots in the tournament. However, Namibia will need to compete in the African qualifiers to earn their place. The rest of the field will be determined by the ICC ODI rankings, with the top eight teams earning direct qualification, while the remaining four teams will be decided through global qualifier tournaments.

The World Cup 2027 format will feature two groups, each with seven teams. Following a round-robin stage where each team plays one another, the top three teams from each group will advance to the Super Six stage. This phase will then lead to the semi-finals and the final, where the champions will be crowned.
