Islamabad: Pakistan’s Meteorological Department has predicted rainfall and snowfall in the country’s northern regions beginning November 4, continuing through November 5. Officials said a new wave of western winds will enter northern Pakistan overnight, bringing a noticeable change in weather conditions.
According to the department, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Abbottabad and Haripur. Meanwhile, cloudbursts and snowfall may occur in Sawabi, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Kashmir and Muzaffarabad. Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Jhelum and Sargodha are also likely to experience rainfall.
Thunderstorms may improve air quality temporarily
The department further warned that rain accompanied by thunder is expected in Khushab, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal and Lahore, which could temporarily reduce air pollution and smog levels. Experts noted that the precipitation will bring slight relief to Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s plains after prolonged dry conditions.
Residents and tourists advised to exercise caution
Authorities cautioned residents and tourists in hilly areas, where snowfall may block roads. Today, most parts of the country will remain dry, although cold conditions are likely in the mornings and evenings in mountainous regions. Islamabad is expected to remain dry and cold, while Murree, Galiyat and surrounding areas will also see dry but chilly weather.
Smog persists in major cities
The Meteorological Department warned that smog is likely to continue in Lahore, Gujranwala, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur and Multan. Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and continue using face masks.
Dry and cold conditions in southern provinces
Meanwhile, Sindh and most districts of Balochistan are expected to experience dry and cold weather, although light rainfall may occur in parts of Chitral, Dir, Bajaur and Kurram Agency. In Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, the weather will remain dry and cold, but rainfall and snowfall in northern areas are expected to increase from tomorrow.
Drop in temperatures in Pothohar, Islamabad and Murree
The department also forecast light rain in the Pothohar region, Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Murree, which will lower temperatures and increase the chill. Officials advised residents to wear warm clothing and take necessary precautions as the weather is expected to intensify over the next few days.
