Punjab PDMA shares emergency contact for Jalalpur Pirwala residents

WEBDESK: The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued emergency mobile numbers for Jalalpur Pirwala as floods continue to threaten the region.

Floodwaters expected to reach Multan within 48 hours

Meanwhile, authorities in south Punjab are preparing for possible breaches of embankments as rivers swell dangerously. Multan remains at high risk due to rising water levels in the Chenab River.

Officials confirmed that the Sher Shah dyke may have to be breached to protect urban areas if water levels rise further. The critical mark is 393.5 feet, while last night the level was recorded at 393 feet.

Authorities warned that the floodwaters are expected to approach Multan within 48 hours. This could put the city in a critical situation, as it is already under severe threat of flooding.

Reports suggest that the decision to breach the embankment has almost been made, with officials anticipating a powerful surge of water moving towards Multan from Trimmu Headworks.

The PDMA urged residents of the affected areas to remain alert and make use of the emergency helplines for assistance.
