In a major relief for citizens seeking passport services, the government has significantly extended working hours at several passport offices across the country.
Under the new arrangement, eight major Regional Passport Offices (RPOs) will operate in two shifts from Monday to Friday and remain open until midnight.
The new system came into effect on August 20, 2026.
The first shift will run from 8:00am to 4:00pm, while the second shift will operate from 4:00pm to 12:00 midnight.
The eight cities covered under the new double-shift system are Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Multan, Bahawalpur, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Hyderabad and Quetta.
The initiative is aimed at reducing overcrowding and providing greater flexibility to citizens who may find it difficult to visit passport offices during conventional working hours.
Separately, the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGI&P) already provides round-the-clock passport processing services at selected offices in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi, including the RPO G-10/4 Islamabad, Garden Town Lahore and Awami Markaz Karachi, along with designated NADRA Mega Centres.
Applicants can also pay their passport fees electronically through the Passport Fee Asaan app or web portal. DGI&P advises applicants using the e-payment facility to confirm that their payment status shows as “Paid” before visiting a passport office.
Applicants are generally required to bring their original valid CNIC/NICOP, proof of passport fee payment and their previous passport, if one has already been issued.
