Web Desk: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan will host the formal signing ceremony of a landmark agreement between Iran and the United States in Geneva on Friday, describing it as a major step toward regional peace.

Speaking in the National Assembly, Sharif said the world had entered a historic phase of diplomacy after what he described as a long period of tension, adding that the agreement marked the end of hostilities and the beginning of a new era of dialogue.

Sharif said Pakistan would play host to the official ceremony in Switzerland, where Iran and the United States are expected to formalize the agreement.

He said the development represented a significant milestone for regional stability and reflected the success of sustained diplomatic engagement.

The prime minister added that Pakistan felt proud to be associated with what he called a peace process aimed at ending conflict through negotiation rather than confrontation.

According to Sharif, both countries had agreed to an immediate and permanent halt to military operations across all fronts.

He described the accord as more than a bilateral understanding, calling it a broader victory for diplomacy and peaceful resolution of disputes.

Sharif said the agreement demonstrated that dialogue could succeed even in deeply entrenched conflicts.

Meanwhile, the prime minister praised multiple international actors for their role in facilitating negotiations.

He said Qatar played a particularly significant role in supporting mediation efforts, while Saudi Arabia and Türkiye also contributed to diplomatic engagement that helped advance the talks.

Sharif said the outcome reflected collective diplomacy and sustained international cooperation aimed at reducing tensions.

Sharif said Pakistan had consistently supported peace, stability and dialogue in the region and welcomed initiatives aimed at de-escalation.

He said hosting the signing ceremony aligned with Pakistan’s long-standing diplomatic stance in favor of negotiated solutions to conflicts.

Observers in political and diplomatic circles said the Geneva ceremony is being viewed as an important step in reducing regional tensions and strengthening global diplomatic efforts.

As preparations continue, attention is now focused on the implementation phase of the agreement and the broader geopolitical implications of the breakthrough.
