Pakistan-Iran transit corridor

The transit corridor between Pakistan and Iran has been officially launched, with the first export shipment dispatched from Karachi to Tashkent. This development is being seen as a major milestone for regional trade and connectivity.

According to reports, the consignment passed through the Gabd border in the Gwadar region and entered Iran at the Ramdan point, from where it will continue onward to Central Asian countries. The new route provides Pakistan with direct land access to key regional markets.

Pakistan Customs stated that the first shipment consists of frozen meat, transported in specially equipped refrigerated trucks from Karachi through Iran to Tashkent. Officials emphasized that the system ensures safe and timely delivery of perishable goods.

The corridor has been established under the TIR Convention framework, offering an efficient and alternative land route for exports to Iran and Central Asia. It is expected to significantly reduce transit time and logistics costs.

Officials added that this initiative will boost trade activities, enhance regional connectivity, and open new opportunities for Pakistan’s industry and export sector, strengthening its economic footprint in Central Asia.

Experts express optimism that this corridor could also pave the way for future integration with broader regional projects, linking South Asia with Central Asia and beyond. This enhanced connectivity is likely to attract investment, improve supply chains, and position Pakistan as a key transit hub in the region.
