Web Desk: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) approved a reduction of Rs. 1.99 per unit in electricity tariffs today under the quarterly adjustment mechanism.
According to an official notification issued by NEPRA, the regulator granted the reduction on account of the quarterly adjustment for the January to March 2026 period.
This tariff cut will remain effective for a three-month duration, spanning from June through August 2026. Furthermore, the price reduction will apply to consumers across the entire country, including customers of K-Electric.
The power sector regulator stated that the reduction in electricity rates will provide a cumulative relief of approximately Rs. 67.17 billion to consumers during the three-month implementation period.
Consequently, the adjustment will significantly lower electricity bills for millions of households and commercial consumers during the peak summer months.
NEPRA managed this adjustment as part of its routine quarterly tariff review process. Under this mechanism, the regulator compares actual generation and operational costs with previously determined rates, subsequently passing any financial differences directly on to the consumers.
As a result of lower actual costs during the first quarter of the year, citizens will now experience immediate financial relief on their monthly utility statements.
