Security sources said the deceased suspect was identified as Muhammad Hussain, a resident of Khyber district, who was an active member of PTI.
According to security sources, a party flag, weapons, ammunition and important documents were also recovered from Muhammad Hussain’s possession.
Security sources said further investigations were underway. The sources said evidence had emerged indicating that the deceased terrorist, Muhammad Hussain, was an active PTI worker and remained in constant contact with the party’s leadership, acting on their instructions.
The sources claimed that during protest sit-ins, the deceased terrorist Muhammad Hussain was also involved in incitement, stone-pelting and firing. During the protests, he allegedly targeted security forces with weapons.
The sources said further investigations into Muhammad Hussain were ongoing.
A spokesperson for Rawalpindi Police said in a statement that today, August 11, 2026, at 11:15am, a man identified as Muhammad Hussain, son of Muhammad Baz, who was affiliated with a specific political party, opened fire with a pistol at a security forces patrol team on Rawalpindi’s Mall Road. As a result, one personnel was injured.
The statement said, “The attacker, Muhammad Hussain, was killed in immediate retaliatory fire. Further evidence and links were revealed from his mobile phone and other belongings, and further investigation is underway.”
According to the statement, law-enforcement agencies remain fully prepared and committed to eliminating all forms of terrorism and incitement to disorder.
Violent politics has become PTI’s method, says Atta Tarar
Speaking exclusively about the firing incident involving a PTI worker on Rawalpindi’s Mall Road, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar said that resorting to violent politics, arriving armed and opening fire on a security official had become PTI’s method, and there was no justification for the firing on the security personnel today.
He said he had seen yesterday that a call was also being made for a long march, adding that their protests were on record as always involving people arriving armed. He said they had opened fire on security personnel and some had also been martyred, adding that police and Rangers personnel had also been killed in the previous incident.
He said they did not believe in peaceful protest and that the nation had witnessed their alleged motives and intentions today, when an armed person opened fire on a security official in broad daylight and in public on Rawalpindi’s Mall Road.
The information minister said they believed in violence and such incidents, adding that PTI had always pursued violent politics and that none of its protests had been peaceful to date.
Tarar said that the way today’s incident had unfolded had brought many things to light, including the recovery of a PTI flag and other documents from the suspect. He said it was now clear that the alleged objective behind any protest was to spread anarchy in the country, disrupt the law-and-order situation and destroy peace and security.
He said that whenever Pakistan received recognition at the international level, such as the recent defence agreement, which he said had been made possible through the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and their teams, PTI announced a long march.
He said that as Pakistan progressed, developed and gained respect, PTI could not accept it and announced protests on every such occasion. He added that whenever a foreign head of state or government was scheduled to visit Pakistan, protests would also be announced.
The information minister said that today’s firing incident had, in his view, opened everyone’s eyes and demonstrated what he described as the alleged motive behind PTI protests: arriving armed, opening fire, causing deaths, destroying law and order and harming the country.
Tarar said Pakistan would continue to progress, InshaAllah, and that the leadership was working day and night for the country’s development. He said it was the destiny of Pakistan and its people to achieve victory on every front, InshaAllah, while Pakistan’s enemies would face failure.
