Web Desk: Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan’s interior minister, arrived in Tehran for a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and discussing regional developments, officials said.
Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni received Naqvi upon arrival as Islamabad continues diplomatic engagement with regional partners amid evolving geopolitical tensions and ongoing diplomatic contacts involving Iran and the United States.
According to officials familiar with the visit, the two sides are expected to discuss bilateral relations, border management, regional security and prospects for continued diplomatic engagement in the region.
The talks are also likely to touch on the evolving Iran-US diplomatic process and broader regional stability concerns.
Pakistani officials said the visit forms part of Islamabad’s efforts to encourage dialogue and support peaceful engagement amid heightened uncertainty across the Middle East.
Both countries share a long border and maintain cooperation on security, trade and regional connectivity initiatives.
Furthermore, officials said discussions explored possibilities for the resumption of broader peace negotiations and coordination on regional matters of mutual concern.
Pakistan has recently intensified diplomatic outreach with neighboring and Gulf countries as part of efforts to position itself as a facilitator of dialogue in regional affairs.
Analysts say Islamabad’s engagement with Tehran reflects Pakistan’s attempt to maintain balanced ties across competing regional blocs.
Separately, reports in Pakistani media said Naqvi, who also serves as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, has received an invitation to attend upcoming International Cricket Council board meetings and the Indian Premier League 2026 final in Ahmedabad.
However, local reports suggested Naqvi is expected to join the ICC board session virtually on May 31 instead of traveling to India.
According to the reports, the invitation has been forwarded to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for consultation before any final decision is made.
The developments come amid complex political ties between Pakistan and India despite continued interaction in international sporting forums.
